Budgam, Oct 28 (KNO): University of Jammu Vice-Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai on Wednesday said the Centre for Regional Studies, Culture, Dialects and Emotional Intelligence has been established to reconnect people with their roots, cultural traditions, oral history and value systems.
Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration of the centre's Kashmir Chapter at Rakh-e-Arth, Bemina, Rai, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), thanked Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for attending the event and supporting the initiative.
He said the centre was conceived in line with the Lieutenant Governor's emphasis on understanding and preserving one's roots.
"Trees that are not connected to their roots get uprooted during a storm. Similarly, it is important for us to remain connected with our culture, traditions, oral history and value systems," Rai said.
He said rapid globalisation was transforming societies and academic institutions, making it essential to preserve traditional values and cultural identity.
Rai said the centre would help create a living repository of the region's heritage while providing a platform for dialogue among researchers and scholars from diverse disciplines.
He added that the Kashmir Chapter would function under the University of Jammu's Centre for Regional Studies and support research scholars, scientists, historians and social scientists working in the region.
The centre will facilitate academic interaction, encourage the exchange of ideas and promote research on Kashmir's culture, history, dialects and social traditions, he said—(KNO)
